They were / lovely and pleasant / in their lives, and in / their death they were / not divided. / 11 Samuel Ch. 1 Ver. 23 / Audactor et sincere / To the memory of / EDWARD BOLTON CLIVE Esqre / of Whitfield / eldest son of GEORGE CLIVE Esqre / and of SIDNEY BOLTON CLIVE / of the County of Louth his wife / He was born September 4th 1766 / married December 1790 / HARRIET daughter and coheir of / ANDREW Lord Archer / and died July 22nd 1845, / leaving three surviving children, viz / HARRIET MARIA / wife of Archdeacon WETHERELL / ARCHER / Rector of Solihull County of Warwick / and GEORGE a Barrister at law / he represented the City of Hereford / from the year 1826 until his death / he was honest and consistent / in his public conduct / just, friendly, and hospitable / as a neighbour / most kind and loving as a parent / and of rare sincerity with all / Audactor et sincere / To the memory of / Colonel EDWARD CLIVE / eldest son of / Edward Bolton CLIVE Esqre / and the Honble HARRIET ARCHER his wife / he was born November 14th 1793, / entered the army / as Ensign in the Grenadier Guards / July 4th 1811, / and died / in command of the same regiment / April 14th 1845 aged 51 years / and unmarried / he served in Spain and France / and at Waterloo / and commanded the 2nd Battalion / in Canada / the numerous friends / officers and soldiers / who attended his funeral / testified the love and respect / in which they held him / and the deep grief of his father / bore witness to his virtues / as a son.

Sacred to the memory of / Sir EDWARD CLIVE, Knt. / who was many years one of His Majesty's / Justices of the Court of Common Pleas, / in which public capacity he ever discovered / that clear and comprehensive judgement / so necessary for the proper discharge / of his important office, happily

uniting / the character of an impartial Judge to / that humane and benevolent disposition / which distinguished ever action of his private life / In his decline, which was gradual, / he possessed that piece [sic] of mind / which arises from the review of an upright conduct / and from the Christians hope of a joyful ressurection [sic] / he died the 21st of April 1771 / aged 67 years.

30th 1801, died July 13th 1873 / She bore her cross and followed him / Also of Revd ARCHER CLIVE, husband of the above, son of EDWARD BOLTON CLIVE & HARRIET daughter of ANDREW last Lord Archer / Rector of Solihull in the County of Warwick from 1829 to 1848, & owner of Whitfield from 1846 to 1878, born March 16th 1800, died Sept. 17th 1878 / his loss is deeply regretted by those whom he assisted in the discharge of public business & by all classes in this neighbourhood, / who loved him and, respected the influence of his character & amongst whom he lived & died.

Audacter et sincere / To the Glory of God / and / in proud and loving memory of / Lt Col PERCY ARCHER CLIVE, M. P. / of Whitfield / eldest son of Mr MEYSEY & Lady / KATHERINE CLIVE, born 1873 & educated at Eton / & Sandhurst. Entered the Grenadier Guards / 1891 & saw active service with the Niger Field / Force 1898. Served in the South African Cam / paign 1899-1901 with the

3rd Batln. Entering / Pretoria on its capture by Field Marshall Lord / ROBERTS. He received the Queens medal & 5 clasps / he was while serving in South Africa returned / as member of parliament for the Ross division of / Herefordshire & retained the trust & confidence / of all parties until his death. He retired in / 1906, but rejoined the colours on the declaration / of War with Germany in Aug 1914 & served / with the 2nd Batln Grenadier Guards in Flanders / & France. For especially gallant conduct during / that winter campaign he received from the / French Government the decoration of Chevalier / of the Legion of Honour with the Croix de Guerre, / wounded in August 1915, he was on recovery / promoted Lt Col & whilst commanding the 7th / Batln East Yorks Regt on the Somme was in / Nov 1916, again severely wounded. After a period / on the staff he was given command of the 5th / Lancs Fusrs & was on the 5th April 1918 killed at / the village of Bucquoy in Picardy whilst / gallantly striving to rescue a wounded officer / In 1905 he married ALICE MURIEL, daughter of / Lieut Col G.F. DALLAS. He leaves her & his children / JUDITH. MEYSEY, LEWIS, VIRGINIA and

CAROLINE, / to deplore his untimely death / More brave for this that he had much to love.

Here rest the mortal remains / of The Honourable HARRIET CLIVE, the well beloved wife / of EDWARD BOLTON CLIVE, Esquire / and daughter and co-heiress of ANDREW Lord Archer, / Baron of Umberslade, in the Count y of Wanwick / she was born November XXV, MDCCLXIX [25,

1769] / was married December V, MDCCXC [5, 1790] and (after a short and sudden illness) / she expired June XXII, MDCCCXVI [1816], leaving behind her / a mournful husband, / to ruminate in silence on the social virtues of her heart, / and the delightful intelligence of her mind. and to derive his best and / dearest consolation from the glorious hope of meeting her hereafter / in the presence of God,

/ and in the eternal mansions prepared for those / who love, and strive to do his will, / Also / three sons and one daughter / to trace, in tender recollection, the course of that / affectionate solicitude, and judicious care / which led them from infancy to the borders of maturity / with an attention so nicely balanced between conscientious duty / which most prevailed, / and lastly, / a greatful [sic] neighbourhood / to bless her memory and to bewail their own irepairable [sic] loss / for she was bountyful [sic] beyond the fashion of this world / and delighted most to lend the helping hand in secret / where none but God could see, / She was not weary in well doing / but possessed a soul indelibly impressed with this eternal truth / It is more blessed to give than to receive.

things are of good report, if their [sic] be any virtue, / and if there be any praise, think on these things / Phil, iv. C. -8. v.
